EARLY ACCESS DEVELOPER RELEASE SOFTWARE.  The following Java(tm) platform
software is now available for download on the JDC:  Java 3D(tm) 1.1 Alpha
2, JavaPC(tm) 1.0 Beta 2 Release, Java Shared Data Toolkit 1.1, Java Wallet
Release 1, and Java Communications API Documentation.  To access, see:

http://java.sun.com/jdc/earlyAccess/index.html

JAVA DEVELOPMENT KIT (JDK(tm)) 1.1.6 NOW AVAILABLE.  Designed for users of
Windows 95, Windows NT 4.0, Sun Solaris(tm) SPARC(tm), and x86 operating
environments, and features enhancements in performance, reliability, and
internationalization.  To access, see:

http://java.sun.com/products/jdk/1.1/index.html

JAVA(tm) PLUG-IN AVAILABILITY ANNOUNCED.  Formerly code-named "Java
Activator," Java Plug-in enables enterprise developers to specify Sun's
Java runtime environment in Internet Explorer 3.02 and Netscape Navigator
-- so users can run applets that take full advantage of the latest
capabilities and features of the Java platform.  Java Plug-in is expected
to be available April 30, 1998.  For more information, see:

http://java.sun.com/products/plugin/

JDBC(tm) 2.0 RELEASED.  Provides Java language programmers with a uniform
interface for a wide range of relational databases, and provides a common
base for building high-level tools and interfaces.  Note:  JDK(tm) 1.1
includes JDBC.  Developers using JDK 1.1 do not need to install this
release.  To access, see:

http://java.sun.com/products/jdbc/index.html

JAVA MEDIA FRAMEWORK (JMF) 1.0 RELEASED.  Designed for integrating and
playing audio and video in Java language applications and applets.  JMF 1.0
features comprehensive media support, high-quality audio, multi-platform
portability, and support for streaming media.  To download, see:

http://java.sun.com/products/java-media/jmf/1.0/

HOTJAVA(tm) VIEWS(tm) 1.1.2 SHIPS.  Enables enterprise deployment of
server-centric, cross-platform, customizable WebTop clients, and
incorporates an intuitive user environment with a set of tightly
integrated, corporate communication tools for email, calendar management,
name directories, and web browsing.

The software can be centrally installed, configured, and managed so that
client administration costs are significantly reduced, and software
distribution is streamlined.  Also, centrally managed user profiles allow
corporations to easily customize and extend the environment for individual
needs.  For more information, see:

http://java.sun.com/products/hotjavaviews/

JAVAMAIL 1.0.1 RELEASED.  Provides a set of abstract classes that model a
mail system, and offers a platform- and protocol-independent framework for
building Java language-based mail and messaging applications.  The JavaMail
API is implemented as a Java language standard extension, and provides a
royalty-free reference implementation in binary form that developers can
use and ship.  The release includes implementations of the core JavaMail
packages, javax.mail and javax.mail.internet.  Also included are a
significant bug fix and implementations of the IMAP and SMTP service
providers.  To access, see:

http://java.sun.com/products/javamail/index.html

JAVACHECK(tm) 2.0 RELEASED.  A developer tool designed to ensure that
applications and applets are compatible with Java language platforms and
run on many types of devices.  The software performs this testing by
determining whether Java class files used by an application or applet
conform to a particular Java platform API specification, such as the
PersonalJava(tm) Specification.  JavaCheck 2.0 provides .spc files that
allow for compliance testing for the PersonalJava platform.  For more
information, see:

http://java.sun.com/products/personaljava/javacheck.html

JAVABEANS(tm) IN THE NEWS.  Including information on InfoBus 1.1
development and upcoming events.  Also, the number of entries in the
JavaBeans Directory now totals 212, and the 100% Pure Java(tm) program is
offering certification for JavaBeans components.

-- Collections package for JDK 1.1 now available.  To facilitate InfoBus
development, the Collections classes and APIs from JDK 1.2 can now be used
